JAZZ EXCURSION
Russo, Neis, Bunke, Gruber, Myself & Ehster
Jazz Excursion (sometimes affectionately known as Jazz X) was a group I played in during high school and a bit in college. It started off as part of the Brookfield Central High School Jazz Combo and quickly turned into a real band. We specialized in classic rock, hits of the day, funk and of course jazz. We were easily able to adapt for any party or event we were hired to play. We played a lot and it was a great way to hone my chops playing with a group that relied so heavily on improvisation. We almost opened for the band Happy Apple once, but their transportation was delayed and their portion of the show was canceled. We won our High School's Battle of the Bands and I believe we won Best Small Ensemble at one or two Jazz Competitions.

Here we have two originals, mainly written by myself and Al Bunke, "Birdman (Flight From The Glass Volcano)" and "Spanish Harvest," as well as a cover of a Herbie Hancock's "Chameleon" with a little bit of "Also Sprach Zarathrusta," the theme from Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.
